My parents declined in their physical and mental health to the point that they were no longer safe to be in their own home alone. After a bout in a hospital, I approached the social worker for a resource to help in the home, and Nurture Care was her suggestion. I was looking for someone who would be sensitive to my parents’ need to be in control of their own lives, and that is what I heard in my initial telephone interview. Daytime help soon became 24 hour coverage, but that doesn’t really describe the contribution the “Ladies” made to our parents’ final years.
